This was a controversial movie. I state as such because many of us had a different opinion on the movie. The illiterate mother really got herself into complications and made her life miserable. She was sent to a school and was helped by a teacher. I do think this part was not that logic because she can go to school later but what she needs now is a welfare home.
She is pregnant and who knows what would happen to the baby. She needs a good home and good counseling sessions in order for her to be ready for the delivery. The help of the teacher can be given in the welfare home. She is always in danger as long as she is on her own. Its best she was under a good hand. The role of the teacher was nice. Hmmmm

“Wrap up”
My thanks to Dr. Jaya, Dr. Vahid, Alicia and Amelia. We had a wonderful time with all of you. It was fun learning ans sharing all the knowledge all of u had. I must say I hada tuff time this semester because my mother was not well. She was diagnosed with CRVO ( central retinal venoue occulation) which caused her to almost lose her vision on the right eye. We came to find this out on the third week of this semester, I had a very hard time in managing my time for my class and assinments because I had to rush home to take care of her. We also had to go for her treatment in Universiti Hospital for her injections. The injection was given into her eyes and she had a rough time.
I looked forward for Dr. Jaya’s class because in his class I always tend to forget everything and have time for jokes and laughter. I must say that all the movie watching sessions gave me a little time to think about my parcticum and my life as a teacher. All the movies really inspired me not to give up at any situation because I was special. I must thank Renuga also because she has helped me in many ways. When I was tired and almost going down especially on Thursdays because after the class I would rush back home to Segamat and will only be back to UPM on Monday morning. I still remember on the day we watched Akeelah and the Bee I was exhausted and tears were rolling down my cheeks of tiresness but nobody noticed. After wastching the movie I was back to the normal person I was. I even downloaded the movie and asked my sister to watch,
I always believe that God can be in any form when you are down. This semester God helped me to go through all the rough times I had with this inspiring movies. Thank you once again. God bless all of you.

Chalk
This movie was rather a different one because it was different from the other entire movies that we have watched. It was more like a mockmentary. It was a story of three teachers and an assistant principal which work together to find the reason why one third of new educators quit after their first year. This movie focuses the struggle of teacher in managing a school. Now this is a movie of what we are going to be like when we hit the school nest semester for our practical.
This movie focused on the American environment but certain issues are applicable in our schools too. Students may vary in many ways and it is up to the teachers to keep up with them. I felt this movie was more of a documentary of a teacher. Sounds scary but we had to watch and we have to really think of what is the environment in the school which we will be placed next semester.
It is up to us actually to make sure everything goes well because if we behave well and show the right thing to the students there is no way we are going to have problems with the students nor the school administrative, Its all adapting ourselves and working together. The movie was ok.

Dr. Vahid…. You save us always!
First of all I must say thank you to Dr. Jaya, Dr. Vahid, Amelia and Alicia for this wonderful day. Portion paper was something we are used to do. I was confused and not sure of what to put on the paper. As I said Dr. Vahid always saves us by helping us. He gave us a wonderful talk on how to write a portion paper. In addition he gave us examples and also the notes printed of the speech. He started off with what is argumentative writing, elements of good arguments, examples and ended elaborately with how to argue effectively.
He even gave us a chance to show him our topic and gave us a lot of ideas on how to write this portion paper. After the lecture we had a good understanding of what portion paper was all about. He gave us some good sayings and made our jobs easy. Furthermore he provided us with argumentative writing checklist which helped us to check our work on our own beforehand. I really admire him for his passion, understanding and his persuasive speaking skill that makes any job easy.
After that wonderful speech we had another wonderful event, thank to Dr. Jaya ! The treat. All of us enjoyed and had a great time together. Dr. Jaya has always been one of the lecture we look forward to because he has his own way of communicating with his students …. God bless all of u.

Passion and relationship…..Finding Forrester.
This movie is a real touching one and it did touch many of our hearts. It has a serious plot and involves an old writer and a young basketball player who writes well. This story is not a normal story which shows racism and failure but its more than that. The story shows the special relationship between them. In this journey of life we sometimes lose sight of our dreams and we are stranded for a long time waiting hoping that somebody would lend a helping hand. This movie depicts the major part of our life that is pursuing our dreams.
If we notice carefully William Forrester did not teach Jamal to write but instead he shows him how to transfer his passion into the paper. I guess he did not spoon-feed him but gave him the essence of knowledge. However, Jamal too played a big part in this movie by showing the hardship that he went through to become a successful person. This story teaches us to go through life no matter what it takes as the saying goes, “All great undertakings are achieved through mighty obstacles”.
Besides all that, I admired the relationship portrayed between these two characters. From nobody they became somebody. This movie was not a normal inspiring movie, instead it served to shape and moulds the character Jamal in the eyes of the audience; to help us better understand the boy he is and the man he will become.
Jamal…..teaches us to go after our dreams….

Principal Joe Clark……..We need to lean on u !
Not to be harsh but if we have a principal as such our Malaysian school system would be one of the excellent system in the world. He is a man who made his dreams come true through students. He is the real teacher become principal which cares and loves his students for who they are and teaches them a good lesson for them to find their way towards success. Drug and gangsterism has become a common problem among students in our schools. It’s difficult to handle these students because the have to be handled with extra care.
Principals like him should be honored because they don’t work for money or fame but for the students. He treated everyone equal and showered extra love towards the needy. I realized that becoming a principal is far more difficult than becoming a teacher. He teaches and at the same time he takes care of the administration. I loved the song “Lean On Me” very much and I would definitely use this song in my class as my teaching aid. This song adds life to the whole movie. The roles of the teachers are also to be praised because they had played their part well in order for the students to succeed.
On the whole, “ Lean On Me inspires those who choose to make a different in their life !

She is a real bee….Akeelah
It may be seen like a kid’s movie but this movie really touched our heart. First time I saw almost all my class member were not asleep and they were watching as if they were there on the day of the competition. All the cheers and sounds clearly showed that everybody was into the movie. That small girl had all our attention. A small girl from a broken family and isolated by her friends reaches all out for victory with the help of a wonderful person. She portrays the actual situation of some students in our schools. These children are special and all they need is just a little boost. Sadly teachers nowadays fail to identify and give them a chance..
At the age of 11 without a father and a useless brother is too much for her. There is so much to learn from her. Dr. Larabee is another special feature that we should adore. His way of teaching touches Akeelah’s heart and reaches her brain to function. Once again discipline played a major role in educating the students. He had his own set of rules for her to achieve her target. His teaching using cards, speaking the right way and the most interesting one using the bit of a song for her to recall what she studied was superb. He identified her strength carefully and made the job easy for her.
I must say that he made learning meaningful for her and she hold on tight on it to win the battle. The movie turned out to be something really fun to watch while she was at the final, Scripps National Spelling Bee. This is because all of us were hoping and praying that she would spell it correctly and wins the championship. Everyone was into the movie and I could hear them whispering, “ Yes, say it !”. Thanks to Dr. Larabee for his teaching and he has reminded us to be attentive and beaware of students like Akeelah because all they need is just a little BOOST….Movie that Stole our HEART !

Rule No.1 “We are a FAMILY”
The Ron Clark Story is a story full of enthusiasm! Why do I say so? Ron Clark was a teacher full of the self fulfilling proficiency machine. He is a very good example of a dedicated teacher. His patients I must say is deeper than the ocean and higher than the mountains. He is strict, humble, assertive, cunning, and full of love. I liked his idea of leaving elementary school and going forward towards adventure. His life in Inner Harlem Elementary School was a total disaster but he managed to change it into paradise. His teaching methods are all effective and captivating especially those with handling students.
He acts smart and deals almost all his challenges set by the students well. The way he builds the relationship with his students may seem easy but he really gave a detail understanding of his ways. Those students may seem harsh, rude and spoiled but that is the situation in certain schools in Malaysia. His rules like, “We are a family, No gums, line up for meals and nobody talks while I talk” seems like nothing but that’s where everything starts. He sets a rule for himself and makes sure the students follow them. While students follow these rules they are trained to behave themselves and to respect the teacher.
Ron uses the students own speciality to teach them. Those good with music learn with music. The way they understood and memorized history was tremendous. I should say many guys do not prefer to be teachers nowadays. I guess Ron Clark is the best example of a male teacher !!!! I hope to follow his steps when I become a teacher.

Arranged Marriage…..Thats a big QUESTION ???
As I have said earlier Dr. Jaya always makes us think, think and think. Things that he discusses sometimes looks mild but actually they carry a lot of weight. Marriage is not something that I’m into now but he forced us to think about that by giving us that as our title for our portion paper. “ I was praying hard that day in my heart that he will not cal my name to ask my opinion on arrange marriage” Marriage is something big and serious and not to be taken light. That day the lecture was full of laughter. Arranged marriage really became a hot topic for all of us. The Indians were highlighted in this matter because it is still practiced among them.
Many of my friends in my class were against arranged marriage because they were already in a relationship but there were a few who are still holding on this. I personally would go for arrange marriage because I fell our parents know the best. For instance, I personally would be glad if my mother chooses the “ MR. Right” for me. That is because she has been all the while with me and she knows me in and out and I will feel blessed because “ he” was my mother’s choice. Moreover, I have stong faith on her and she is lucky for me. I feel our parents have brought us up well and at this important time of our life we sometimes become selfish in standing for our choice and not giving them a chance to even say a word.
I’m not against love marriage but in this days too many love marriages are going into drains. I must be a little harsh because love alone does not make the marriage strong but trust, blessings from the elders and the understanding of the meaning of marriage carries more weight. I love to quate Cil Pa here, “ Marriage is not about I love you and you love me and oops we made monkeys. We have enough monkeys around and I don’t want my Teslions to produce monkeys !” what she says is 100% correct.
So, start thinking now itself, and when its time for your marriage you have made your mind and you know what you are doin.!!!!!!!!!!!!Good luck

The day we became an artist and a cartoonist !!!!
Tutorials can be really boring and tiring but Dr. Jaya’s tutorials are always fun and exciting. The tutorial on 5th August 2010 was really a fun one. I think we proved that teachers are not only good in holding red pen and marking books but we can be cartoonist and create our own fables. As in the last lecture class we were told that we are supposed to come up with our own fable and this was the time to show our talent.
Things can be very intersting when few heads get together. Renuga the tecnologist is always equipped with the latest technology has makes our work easy. She took out her I pod and found examples of fables and gave us ideas on how to come up with our own crwactive fable. The cutest person Adel came up with the fish idea because that was the easiet thing that we could draw. And so all of us cracked our head and Naomi came up with the script ! “ Here we go with our fish Fable”
I was the artist. I started to draw and Adel helped me to colour and Renuga kept track of our work. This day was fun and relly tiring bacause we had to draw and come up with our summary of the arrange marriage. We were done and things turned our great. This tutorial brought all of us together because everyone was searching for markers and colours and asking help from people to draw. Indeed, the class became a fish Market !!! But we had FUN.

Fables…..
It was our Wednesday class so it’s time to meet Dr.Jaya. We always wait for this moment because he always has something nice for us. This time he came in and said today we will learn on fables so all of you please make sure that I don’t run away from the track. I smiled to myself and said, “ Dr.Jaya is going to teach today !”. The others also smiled because this is supposed to be a class full of general knowledge and fun but today it is turned to a serious one. Then be begun with the topic saying that today we were about to learn fables. Not even 5 minutes and he was talking about practicum. He is really a wonderful person. I’m not sure if anyone of us are worried of their practicum but he certainly is. He started all over again about our accommodation, teaching styles, attire, and behavior. This discussion went on till 3.45pm and then he realized he was out of topic and we all had a big laugh. In the left time he gave us a brief explanation of what is fables, examples and a task. “Oh God ! Another assignment I thought!” We were assigned with our portion paper.
Hmmm…NO matter how difficult we are suppose to do it. Everybody made noise as usual but he had his own way to console us and he always wins. Dr. Jaya has awesome persuading skill I must say. Anyway the topic was interesting too. We were told to come up with our own fables in our next tutorial. As usual fables were fabulous on that day !

Mona Lisa Smile….she made me smile !
We went to class as usual and sat at the back because we were just tired after a whole day of full tiring classes. Furthermore it’s our last class for the week and it’s time for me to go back home. I always wonder why we have to come so far just to watch these movies when we can watch them in our rooms. I was just too tired to even pay attention on what was on the screen. After a while the movie started with Julia Roberts story, and I was excited because she is my favorite. So I told myself maybe I should pay attention this time because she always makes the movie worthwhile watching.
I missed the title of the movie so I asked Renuga, and she said, “ Mona Lisa Smile”. “I immediately said to her she will make us smile I guess.” Through enough the movie was very nice and motivating. She looked different and brought the character so well. In 1953, a time when women's roles were rigidly defined, free-spirited, novice art history professor Katherine Watson begins teaching at the prestigious all-female Wellesley College--which despite its academic reputation, is an environment where success is measured by 'how well' the students marry.
This question really made me think. How people those days looked down upon women and they had such a scale to evaluate the young women. Her way of teaching and even dressing gave us an impact on what a teacher could do. The director made me think deeper as there was a love story in the middle. I told myself how difficult a women studies and makes changes to herself she is always looked down by certain guys. I liked her way of teaching the arrogant girl who played the role of the principal’s daughter. Julia also shows that sometimes it’s necessary to teach a lesson those who need them.
On the other hand, I was impressed that she taught the arrogant and spoilt girls a lesson through a subject like art. From this story I began to believe the saying “Pictures speaks thousand words”. In my opinion art has a very high ecstatic value that can be explored. In our school curriculum art is not given importance. I‘ve learned that art allows the students to express themselves and gives them confident. After the movie, all of us were talking and sharing our own views on the movie. Besides that, we had a chance to clear all our doubts on the movie to. Then I realise the reason why Dr. Jaya has this movie session. As I said, “She made me smile”.
