Precious…..

This was a controversial movie. I state as such because many of us had a different opinion on the movie. The illiterate mother really got herself into complications and made her life miserable. She was sent to a school and was helped by a teacher. I do think this part was not that logic because she can go to school later but what she needs now is a welfare home.
She is pregnant and who knows what would happen to the baby. She needs a good home and good counseling sessions in order for her to be ready for the delivery. The help of the teacher can be given in the welfare home. She is always in danger as long as she is on her own. Its best she was under a good hand. The role of the teacher was nice. Hmmmm

“Wrap up”

My thanks to Dr. Jaya, Dr. Vahid, Alicia and Amelia. We had a wonderful time with all of you. It was fun learning ans sharing all the knowledge all of u had. I must say I hada tuff time this semester because my mother was not well. She was diagnosed with CRVO ( central retinal venoue occulation) which caused her to almost lose her vision on the right eye. We came to find this out on the third week of this semester, I had a very hard time in managing my time for my class and assinments because I had to rush home to take care of her. We also had to go for her treatment in Universiti Hospital for her injections. The injection was given into her eyes and she had a rough time.
I looked forward for Dr. Jaya’s class because in his class I always tend to forget everything and have time for jokes and laughter. I must say that all the movie watching sessions gave me a little time to think about my parcticum and my life as a teacher. All the movies really inspired me not to give up at any situation because I was special. I must thank Renuga also because she has helped me in many ways. When I was tired and almost going down especially on Thursdays because after the class I would rush back home to Segamat and will only be back to UPM on Monday morning. I still remember on the day we watched Akeelah and the Bee I was exhausted and tears were rolling down my cheeks of tiresness but nobody noticed. After wastching the movie I was back to the normal person I was. I even downloaded the movie and asked my sister to watch,
I always believe that God can be in any form when you are down. This semester God helped me to go through all the rough times I had with this inspiring movies. Thank you once again. God bless all of you.

Chalk

This movie was rather a different one because it was different from the other entire movies that we have watched. It was more like a mockmentary. It was a story of three teachers and an assistant principal which work together to find the reason why one third of new educators quit after their first year. This movie focuses the struggle of teacher in managing a school. Now this is a movie of what we are going to be like when we hit the school nest semester for our practical.
This movie focused on the American environment but certain issues are applicable in our schools too. Students may vary in many ways and it is up to the teachers to keep up with them. I felt this movie was more of a documentary of a teacher. Sounds scary but we had to watch and we have to really think of what is the environment in the school which we will be placed next semester.
It is up to us actually to make sure everything goes well because if we behave well and show the right thing to the students there is no way we are going to have problems with the students nor the school administrative, Its all adapting ourselves and working together. The movie was ok.

Dr. Vahid…. You save us always!

First of all I must say thank you to Dr. Jaya, Dr. Vahid, Amelia and Alicia for this wonderful day. Portion paper was something we are used to do. I was confused and not sure of what to put on the paper. As I said Dr. Vahid always saves us by helping us. He gave us a wonderful talk on how to write a portion paper. In addition he gave us examples and also the notes printed of the speech. He started off with what is argumentative writing, elements of good arguments, examples and ended elaborately with how to argue effectively.

He even gave us a chance to show him our topic and gave us a lot of ideas on how to write this portion paper. After the lecture we had a good understanding of what portion paper was all about. He gave us some good sayings and made our jobs easy. Furthermore he provided us with argumentative writing checklist which helped us to check our work on our own beforehand. I really admire him for his passion, understanding and his persuasive speaking skill that makes any job easy.

After that wonderful speech we had another wonderful event, thank to Dr. Jaya ! The treat. All of us enjoyed and had a great time together. Dr. Jaya has always been one of the lecture we look forward to because he has his own way of communicating with his students …. God bless all of u.

Passion and relationship…..Finding Forrester.

This movie is a real touching one and it did touch many of our hearts. It has a serious plot and involves an old writer and a young basketball player who writes well. This story is not a normal story which shows racism and failure but its more than that. The story shows the special relationship between them. In this journey of life we sometimes lose sight of our dreams and we are stranded for a long time waiting hoping that somebody would lend a helping hand. This movie depicts the major part of our life that is pursuing our dreams.
If we notice carefully William Forrester did not teach Jamal to write but instead he shows him how to transfer his passion into the paper. I guess he did not spoon-feed him but gave him the essence of knowledge. However, Jamal too played a big part in this movie by showing the hardship that he went through to become a successful person. This story teaches us to go through life no matter what it takes as the saying goes, “All great undertakings are achieved through mighty obstacles”.
Besides all that, I admired the relationship portrayed between these two characters. From nobody they became somebody. This movie was not a normal inspiring movie, instead it served to shape and moulds the character Jamal in the eyes of the audience; to help us better understand the boy he is and the man he will become.
Jamal…..teaches us to go after our dreams….

Principal Joe Clark……..We need to lean on u !

Not to be harsh but if we have a principal as such our Malaysian school system would be one of the excellent system in the world. He is a man who made his dreams come true through students. He is the real teacher become principal which cares and loves his students for who they are and teaches them a good lesson for them to find their way towards success. Drug and gangsterism has become a common problem among students in our schools. It’s difficult to handle these students because the have to be handled with extra care.
Principals like him should be honored because they don’t work for money or fame but for the students. He treated everyone equal and showered extra love towards the needy. I realized that becoming a principal is far more difficult than becoming a teacher. He teaches and at the same time he takes care of the administration. I loved the song “Lean On Me” very much and I would definitely use this song in my class as my teaching aid. This song adds life to the whole movie. The roles of the teachers are also to be praised because they had played their part well in order for the students to succeed.
On the whole, “ Lean On Me inspires those who choose to make a different in their life !

She is a real bee….Akeelah

It may be seen like a kid’s movie but this movie really touched our heart. First time I saw almost all my class member were not asleep and they were watching as if they were there on the day of the competition. All the cheers and sounds clearly showed that everybody was into the movie. That small girl had all our attention. A small girl from a broken family and isolated by her friends reaches all out for victory with the help of a wonderful person. She portrays the actual situation of some students in our schools. These children are special and all they need is just a little boost. Sadly teachers nowadays fail to identify and give them a chance..
At the age of 11 without a father and a useless brother is too much for her. There is so much to learn from her. Dr. Larabee is another special feature that we should adore. His way of teaching touches Akeelah’s heart and reaches her brain to function. Once again discipline played a major role in educating the students. He had his own set of rules for her to achieve her target. His teaching using cards, speaking the right way and the most interesting one using the bit of a song for her to recall what she studied was superb. He identified her strength carefully and made the job easy for her.
I must say that he made learning meaningful for her and she hold on tight on it to win the battle. The movie turned out to be something really fun to watch while she was at the final, Scripps National Spelling Bee. This is because all of us were hoping and praying that she would spell it correctly and wins the championship. Everyone was into the movie and I could hear them whispering, “ Yes, say it !”. Thanks to Dr. Larabee for his teaching and he has reminded us to be attentive and beaware of students like Akeelah because all they need is just a little BOOST….Movie that Stole our HEART !
